What’s in a name?

The name “another level” is a nod to David Wheeler’s aphorism: “All problems in computer science can be solved by another level of indirection.” This statement encapsulates a fundamental truth about managing complexity in technology: abstraction layers. Abstraction layers enable and simplify some tasks, yet introduce their own complexity and challenges. Much of my work involves various abstraction layers and understanding their immediate peers, whether it’s in network and system virtualization, clouds, or wherever the problem has been moved in the stack.

This site is a public ledger of various curiosities: work notes, study observations, culinary attempts, general musings, lessons learned, and arguably misguided insights into topics such as backup systems and attempts at avoiding their use. I write in Markdown and do so inconsistently.
